New face for health and fitness taniwha
The new chief executive of a Māori physical health and nutrition promotion agency says partnerships will be the key to growth.
Toi Tangata works with government agencies, health professionals, iwi and whānau to promote a mātauranga Māori approach to health and fitness.
Darrio Penetito-Hemara from Ngpuhi, says as a graduate of kōhanga reo, kura kaupapa and wharekura Māori he can see how its message can resonate with a new generation.
"What I want to do is build this taniwha up to be a force in the sector, to be able to partner up with all our important rōpū, with our iwi, with our rūnanga, with a lot of other spaces that believe in kaupapa and mātauranga Māori being at the helm of everything that we do," he says.
