Hastings District Council has agreed to a three-week consultation after its Māori standing committee recommended there be Māori wards.
To meet the deadline to have the wards in place for next year’s local government election the consultation needs to be done and the council vote by May 21.
Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst says it’s important the community considers what the future of Heretaunga looks like and what fair representation looks like.
