Hui help kaumatua prepare for vaccine roll out

Associate Health Minister Peeni Henare says the Māori response to the prospect of getting a Covid vaccination seems overwhelmingly positive.
Mr Henare has been holding hui around the country to test reports many Māori are hesitant or even opposed to the vaccine.
He says what they want is information delivered in a way they understand it.
"When I've been around and discussed with whānau, for example in Ruatōria yesterday, they were really keen to get the vaccine into their communities. A lot of the kaumātua and kuia asked good questions around the efficacy of the vaccine, the availability, the safety, all of those things which shows they are informed and engaged and the purpose of the hui is to answer those questions face to face instead of hoping our kuia and kaumātua read government press statements," Mr Henare says.
