Waiheke marina construction pushing ahead despite appeal

Protesters are upset a developer is moving ahead with construction of a Waiheke marina despite a pending Supreme Court appeal over the resource consent.
Kennedy Point Boat Harbour Limited brought in a construction barge on March 9, the day after the company and Auckland Council filed submissions to oppose Save Kennedy Point's appeal.
Ngāti Pāoa member Emily Māia Weiss Randall says workers were back yesterday to continue work on a floating car park and ramp sited next to the home of kororā or little penguins.
"They've started marking off their construction area in the moana with warratahs with flags and drilling big fences right where the kororā are on the breakwall, so construction is imminent," she says.
Save Kennedy Point says the developer has failed to prepare a mana whenua engagement plan with the Ngāti Pāoa Trust Board when it was listed by council as a mandated representative of the iwi, nor did it produce a biosecurity management plan for council approval.
