Kaumatua first in Manurewa Marae vaccination programme

Manurewa Marae is starting to administer Covid vaccinations as part of a nationwide drive to involve Māori health organisations in the rollout.
Spokesperson Takutai Moana Kemp says vaccinators attached to its Te Manu Aute Whare Oranga have received training over the past weeks, as well as getting their own jabs to keep them and their whānau safe.
She says over the past year the marae has prepared itself for this moment, extending its reach into the community through the distribution of relief supplies and building up its primary health service.
“As an urban marae in Tāmaki Makaurau we wanted to make sure we could provide access for our whānau, our kaumātua kuia and others with impacting health issues, to be able to be vaccinated at Manurewa Marae,’” Ms Kemp says.
Vaccinations started today with invitations going out to kaumātua and kuia 60 plus registered with Te Manu Aute, and it will then open up to wider bookings, vaccinating up to 300 people a day.
