Motu the Nightmea takes women’s boxing title
Kaitaia born Mea "The Nightmea" Motu is Aotearoa's new women's lightweight boxing champion after stopping Taranaki's Tania Reid in the third round of their bout in Northcote on Friday night.
The 31-year-old mother of five is undefeated after six bouts including three knockouts.
She says boxing had to share time with touch, soccer and raising a family, but West Auckland trainer Isaac Peach convinced her to join the professional ranks after the first COVID-19 lockdown and she hasn't looked back.
"I've got a really good team who are willing to push me and support me and make sure I get what I want and my coach, he knows 100 per cent I am going to do it so if he believes in me I back myself 100 per cent,' she says.
Mea Motu's next bout is against Natasha Norden at Sky City on April 9.
