Apology to police but Ten 7 still needs fixing
Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon is walking back calling the police racist – but he still wants to see changes to TVNZ's Police Ten 7 programme.
He says a question about Efeso Collins' call for the programme caught him on the hop, and he should have said there was systemic racism – which police leaders have admitted.
He agrees with the Auckland councillor that Police Ten 7 portrays brown people in a negative light.
"It is a sensationalised programme. However, I do support the programme because of the number of crimes they have solved but they do not need to have the disproportionate number of brown people on the Ten 7 show," Mr Foon says.
