Annie Aranui broke barriers for Maori

Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson has paid tribute Annie Aranui, the former Hawke’s Bay regional commissioner for the Ministry of Social Development who died suddenly this week of a heart attack.
He says her ability to breakdown social barriers meant she was able to get various agencies to work together for the betterment of whānau, hāpū and iwi.
"I worked closely with her when I was Minister for Employment and we rolled out a number of kaupapa around that area, Poutama Rangatahi, Mana and Mahi, Māori Trade Training so a sad loss and an honour to attend that tangi yesterday, so nō reira e te tuahine, moe mai, moe mai, moe mai rā," Mr Jackson says.
