Artists, actors, writers and other creatives are set to benefit from a new initiative linking the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and the Ministry for Social Development.
The Creative Careers Service pilot replaces the Pathways to Arts and Cultural Experience or PACE programme and is expected to support up to 1000 people across three regions over the next two years.
It's open to people on the Jobseeker benefit, recent creative graduates not on a benefit and out of work creative sector kaimahi.
Carmel Sepuloni, who is is the Minister for both agencies, says the arts sector was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pilot aims to give them a path to more secure employment.
"The programme will ensure they have access to things like business management, marketing, the networking to give them a foot in the door, so it is set up to support our creatives to thrive in this period," she says.
The pilot is being run through Depot Artspace in North and Central Auckland, Ngahere Communities in South Auckland, The Big Idea in East and West Auckland, and Creative Waikato, with Nelson set to join in early March.
