IA takes music to ngahere
Māori music collective IA has debuted its new single with a concert in Hamilton’s Pukemokemoke Bush Reserve, with the audience listening to the live mix on wireless headphones.
Songwriter Reti Hedley says with Ororuarangi he wanted to use taonga puoro as the main sound source, rather than just an ambient sound effect.
He says the lyrics are inspired by his late mother Rangiiria Hedley’s work on the revitalisation of traditional instruments.
The other members of IA are Turoa Pohatu and Moetu Smith.
The live forest performance can be viewed on IA’s Facebook Page and Youtube channel, and Ororuarangi is now available for download from at all major music outlets.
