Tie fight shows NZ needs to grow up
A Hindu cleric who has offered official prayers in many American statehouses and the US Senate says he’s shocked at the ejection of Māori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi from the New Zealand parliament for refusing to wear a tie.
Rajan Zed says New Zealand needs to grow up.
He says parliaments were there to make the laws and not to issue fashion judgments.
He asked why the parliament was giving so much importance to an impractical decorative fabric whose origins went back to Croatian mercenaries which neither provided warmth on a cold day and nor covered one’s nakedness.
