Tahu FM enters fourth decade
South Island Māori broadcaster Tahu FM is celebrating 30 years on air.
Festivities kicked off today with giveaways, flashback videos, the Tahu FM Facebook page and special guests throughout February.
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu CEO Arihia Bennett says over the decades it has evolved into multimedia platform, and now has a video production arm for live broadcasting and web series.
On the radio side it has sought to accommodate changing music trends while staying true to its Māori roots.
"And it's just about having to adapt to the change and actually to what our listeners want to hear but never forgetting that heart and soul of te reo Māori and advocating and pushing that through to the wider mainstream," she says.
Arihia Bennett says Tahu FM has helped to bring whānau around Te Waipounamu together through its reo Māori programming.
