Attacks on mana wahine bad for health

A Mana Wahine claimant wants to see a greater focus on the health needs of Māori women as a result of the Waitangi Tribunal inquiry.
The tribunal is in Kerikeri hearing evidence on the WAI 2700 kaupapa inquiry, which stems from a 1993 claim sparked by the anger of many women at the removal of the late Dame Mira Szaszy from the shortlist for the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission.
Tania Rangiheuea says while it may be too early to say what redress could look like, her submission yesterday highlighted disparities in health outcomes.
"One of the redresses might that the Crown squarely has a focus on raising the health outcomes for Māori, Māori women. I'm just presuming this because these things have not been set in concrete. But I would expect that there will be some decision will be made on how some of those outcomes can be achieved." Ms Rangiheuea says.
