App promotes collection of whakapapa

A new app that stores whakapapa and family histories is being hailed as the beginning of a new era for Māori archivists.
Tech entrepreneur Kaye Maree Dunn says Āhau helps whānau and tribal communities capture, preserve, and share important information and histories on secure, whānau-managed databases.
She believes the archiving of whakapapa and oral history could become a valuable industry for Māori.
"I would love to see rangatahi able to get NCEA credits for interviewing kuia and kaumatua and I would also love to there to be an elevation in status of those who hold whakapapa and can train in that space," Ms Dunn says.
