Children’s Minister Kelvin Davis says donning Santa’s hat and beard this week will be a first.

He’s been appointed by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for the co-star role at a children’s event on Wednesday.

"You can tell by my voice I'm really looking forward to donning the red suit and saying 'ho, ho. ho,' but it's for a good cause and I will have to put on my bravest face," Mr Davis says.
