Dictionary extends te reo resource

All 500 biographies of Māori subjects in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography are now available in te reo Māori.
Neill Atkinson, the chief historian at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage Manatū Taonga, says the dictionary has just published translations of entries added since the dictionary became a purely digital product.
The translations were made by Sean Ellison, Te Haumihiata Mason, Hēni Jacob, Charisma Rangipunga and Simon Petricevich, taking into account differing iwi dialects and orthographic conventions.
The dictionary, along with the te reo sections of Te Ara, the New Zealand Encyclopedia, forms the largest te reo Māori publishing programme ever undertaken in New Zealand.
