Residency chance to complete Maori musical
Māori playwright, musician, and educator Ani-Piki Tuari has been appointed Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington’s Emerging Māori Writer in Residence for 2021.
Tuari intends to use the residency, which comes with a $15,000 stipend, to work on her Māori musical, Whakapaupakihi.
She wants it to send a message to the next generation.
"Their world, their perspective, their language is just as important as anything else. In my time that has not been the case and I am a huge advocate for promoting that te ao Māori, tirohanga Māori, te reo Māori are important," Tuari says.
