Physician tasked with Smokefree 2025 target

Māori public health and tobacco control advocacy group Hāpai Te Hauora has welcomed Dr Ayesha Verrall being given the tobacco control delegation in the allocation of health portfolios.
Chief executive Selah Hart says the appointment of an experienced physician will bring new energy to the role and she will have a genuine interest in ensuring the country achieves the Smokefree 2025 target.
Dr Verrall will be supported by Peeni Henare and Aupito William Sio, who have delegations for Māori and Pasifika health respectively, and Minster Andrew Little.
Hāpai is still waiting for the Smokefree Action Plan promised in 2018.
