Internet fishing finds new home for swamper
Former Swamp Thing member Grant Haua’s solo career has garnered international support thanks to a spot of internet fishing.
The well established and aptly-named French label Dixiefrog has picked up his album Awa Blues for release early in 2021.
It was recorded in Tim Julian’s Colour Field Studios near his home in Tauranga.
Haua says once he’d finished the songs he made some videos on Go Pro during lockdown, and put up a package on the internet.
"And it was just like throwing out a bait into the surf, I put it all together and I threw it out on the internet ocean and I got a couple of bites. One of them was Dixiefrog and they're the real deal. They've been supportive of me, they've given me some money to help out with stuff which is an encouraging sign," he says.
The first single from Awa Blues, Tough Love Mumma, is out now.
It’s a tribute to Haua’s late mother, and features his aunties dancing around.
