Reti happy to work in background

Don’t expect to hear a lot from National’s new deputy leader in the months ahead.
Shane Reti was given the role in a unanimous move by the party caucus as it seeks to reposition its diminished team for the next three years in Opposition.
He says as Judith Collins’ understudy he will take inspiration from one of the four deputies he has served under.
"I’m probably more in the style of Bill English – that is, say less and do more. So am I looking forward to speaking more in the house? I'm relishing that opportunity but I'm more looking forward to being the engine behind Judith Collins and the engine beside my colleagues. That’s what I’m looking forward to being," Mr Reti says.
He says with a lot of roles to be shared among only 33 MPs, people were asked to look after not only what they were familiar with but also areas they had to learn, such as new MPs Christopher Luxon and Joseph Mooney being given Iwi Development and Treaty Negotiations respectively.
