SH1 leads to pact with iwi

Northland iwi Ngāti Hine is today signing a memorandum of understanding with Land Transport New Zealand Te Waka Kōtahi.
Member Huhana Lyndon says the iwi is keen to make it a living document.
"It’s beyond just being the kaitiaki in a project. It's walking alongside, looking at social procurement, looking at those things that add value for us, whether it's a cycleway, whether it's our townships because we have State Highway One running through Kawakawa-Moerewa for example. What does that look like in terms of trying to bring our people together in the conversation to talk about the issue at hand and how can we give better effect to the partnership?" she says.
Ngāti Hine hopes some jobs for its people will come out of the partnership, and it is also keen to be involved in planning.
