Reti unanimous pick as Collins’ deputy

National’s caucus has picked Shane Reti as the party’s new deputy leader.
The 57-year-old Harvard-trained former general practitioner was unopposed for the position after former deputy Gerry Brownlee announced he was not standing.
Judith Collins, who was reconfirmed as the party’s leader, says Dr Reti is a hard-working, intelligent MP with all the skills needed to be an effective leader.
She cited his role in leading National’s questioning of the Government’s handling of COVID-19.
Dr Reti lost his Whangārei seat to Labour's Emily Henderson once special votes were counted, but the high list ranking he received when Ms Collins took over the top spot kept him in parliament.
