Davidson portfolio heading anti-violence team
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says it will take a whole of government response to tackle New Zealand’s appalling rates of family and sexual violence.
Ms Davidson has taken on the portfolio as part of the Greens’ cooperation deal with Labour.
She says she will build on the ground laid by Green colleague Jan Logie as a under-secretary in the previous Government, including her work on the crown-Maori partnership.
She says there is no one size fits all solution, and underlying stresses like housing, poverty, addiction and cultural disconnection need to be addressed.
"This is why I am the lead minister for the joint venture, the whole of government response because I need to be in touch with and working with the ministers who are responsible for making those decisions across Education, Health, Justice, Te Puni Kōkiri, MSD , ACC, Corrections, Prisons and so on. It’s big mahi and we’ve got to work together," Ms Davidson says.
