Maori jobs part of Government’s economic priorities

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says as part of its COVID recovery plan the new Labour Government will extend the Small Business Loan Scheme out to three years and extend the interest free period to two years.
It will also extend the purpose of the scheme to allow business to borrow to invest in new equipment and digital infrastructure.
The changes will be made before Christmas to provide business certainty.
It will also prioritise the roll out of the flexi-wage scheme, adding another $311 million to increase the average subsidy paid to employers to take on a worker and enable an additional 40,000 unemployed people to participate.
She hopes the expanded scheme will help many Māori, Pasifika and women who have been disproportionately impacted by job losses to date.
