Tangata whenua key to homeless strategy

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says she sees Māori and iwi having a leading role in addressing homelessness.
Ms Davidson has picked up the homelessness responsibility as a minister outside cabinet as part of the Greens cooperation deal with Labour, along with becoming Minister for prevention of family and sexual violence.
She will continue the strategy brought in during the last Government which focused on the Housing First approach as well as a tangata-whenua-led approach.
She says previous minister Nanaia Mahuta did a lot of work in the last term.
"I was really pleased to see that work begin and I'm really proud to pick that work up, to make sure we are wrapping around the social support, especially through iwi and Māori organisations, for people who are particularly chronically homeless, who require a lot of awhi, a lot of manaaki, a lot of community connections to stay housed in a good, healthy, long term housing situation," Ms Davidson says.
