Greens part of team with own voice
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says she will still be able to take a different stand on issues like Ihumatao and wealth tax, even though the Greens are supporting the Labour Government on confidence and supply.
The parties inked a deal yesterday under which the Greens co-leaders become ministers outside cabinet.
Ms Davidson becomes the Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence and Associate Minister of Housing (Homelessness), while James Shaw retains his Climate Change portfolio and also becomes Associate Minister for the Environment (Biodiversity).
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the deal represented the continuation of the Labour-Greens relationship and provided stability, while also allowing the parties to agreed to disagree on some policies.
She will announce the rest of her cabinet today.
Ms Ardern says there’s won’t be large scale deviations from existing portfolios, and changes were about balancing existing experience with new talent.
