Charity highlight for Ngapuhi beauty queen
Miss World New Zealand winner Sydney Batters says winning the title has restored her confidence and made her excited for the challenges ahead.
The 19-year-old with Ngāpuhi connections comes from Kaeo, and is currently studying nursing at Auckland University of Technology with the intention of working in mental health.
She says a highlight of the event, which has taken 10 months of preparation, was raising funds for Brave, the anti-sexual violence charity started by 2018 winner Jessica Tyson.
"I felt deeply towards that because it is an amazing charity and hearing Jessica's story was inspiring so I loved raising funds and donating them to Brave to visit schools all across the country and do workshops and things like that which I’ll be attending as well," Ms Batters says.
