Kiro picked for Royal Society role
The Royal Society Te Apārangi has appointed former Children’s Commissioner Cindy Kiro as its chief executive.
Society president Wendy Larner says she will bring a wealth of experience from a very wide public sector, academic and research background.
Professor Kiro, form Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu, and Ngāti Hine, is currently the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Māori) at the University of Auckland.
She chaired Kia Piki Ake the Welfare Expert Advisory Group, and as New Zealand’s fourth Children’s Commissioner she established the Taskforce for Action on Family Violence.
Professor Kiro says it’s time for staged, considered advice about science, research, mātauranga and rangahau.
She takes up the position in March.
