Whakapapa pride on basketball court

Travel to the islands may still be weeks or months away, but Samoa, Niue, Cook Islands, Tonga, and Fiji will be represented alongside Aotearoa at the inaugural First Nations Basketball Tournament in west Auckland this weekend.
Nardi Leonard from Tāmaki Makaurau Poitūkohu says her club has entered 11 teams from the under-13s to the under-21 age group.
The club is also a regular to the annual national Māori basketball tournament, and she says it gives urban kids a chance to represent whānau and whakapapa in a way they don’t get from normal club or rep play.
The tournament starts tomorrow at Trusts Arena in Henderson.
