Poll set to give Billy the blues
Claims by Advance New Zealand that its co-leader Billy Te Kahika was poised to win Te Taitokerau were not borne out by a Curia survey of the electorate for Māori Television.
Of the 496 people it talked to, it found only two who intended to vote for the guitarist – one more than were voting for serial candidate Clinton Dearlove.
Excluding those who were undecided or refused to state their preference, incumbent Kelvin Davis had 59 percent of the sample on his side, while the Māori Party’s Mariameno Kapa-Kingi drew 29 percent support.
Labour would draw 58 percent of the party vote, New Zealand First 6 percent and National 4 percent.
The economy and housing were the most important issues for people, followed by education, COVID, health and jobs.
The latest TVNZ Colmar Brunton poll released last night shows support for Labour is steady on 47 percent, while National fell one point to 32 percent.
ACT is sitting pretty on 8 percent, the Greens are on a nervous 6 percent, and New Zealand First is still well below the threshold on 2 percent.
