Radio veteran speaks up for urban Maori on reo body

Former Radio Waatea Station Manager and current Manukau Urban Māori Authority chair Bernie O’Donnell has been chosen to represent urban Māori on the Maori language body Te Mātāwai.
He replaces educationalist Hemi Dale, who has completed a three-year term.
Te Mātāwai co-chair Te Waihoroi Shortland says Mr O’Donnell has vast expertise in Māori broadcasting and in shaping the rights of Māori in urban settings.
He has served since its inception on Te Pae Motuhake o Te Reo Tukutuku, which represents non-iwi stakeholders in the organisation.
