Glenis Philip-Barbara for Children’s Commission role

Former Taura Whiri chief executive Glenis Philip-Barbara has been appointed as the first Assistant Māori Commissioner for Children.
Commissioner Andrew Becroft says the role is an attempt to build a genuine partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
He says as a mother of seven, including three whāngai children, she won’t flinch from challenge, or the need to speak courageously.
Ms Philip-Barbara, who has Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Uepōhatu, and Clan McDonald connections, says tamariki and mokopuna deserve the very best life their trusted adults can give them.
That includes ensuring every child, has a safe and trusted whānau who will guide and love them, and ensure that their inherent mana is understood, protected and respected.
