Iwi collaboration part of Labour housing plan
Labour says what it’s doing on housing is working, and expect more of the same if remains in Government after the October 17 election.
That’s despite its KiwiBuild policy failing to meet ambitious targets in its first term.
Leader Jacinda Ardern says momentum is building in public housing, KiwiBuild properties and market developments, and pathways for home ownership.
She says Labour stopped National’s state house sell-off and funded over 18,000 public and transitional homes to be delivered by 2024.
This is adding to the housing stock, supporting the construction sector, and maintaining and growing jobs with apprenticeships.
Housing spokesperson Megan Woods says more than 600 homes underwritten by KiwiBuild have been completed, with another 1000 still under construction.
A progressive home ownership scheme is being rolled out to help low income people into their first homes.
There is also an iwi Māori pathway for progressive home ownership as well as partnerships under MAIHI, the Māori and Iwi Housing Innovation Framework for Action, to tackle homelessness.
