COVID money will train Kahungunu builders

Money is starting to flow from the $50 million Māori Trades and Training Fund, with just over $2 million going to Ngāti Kahungunu’s K3 Development Limited Partnership.
The fund was established as part of the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund,
Employment Minister Willie Jackson says K3's Takitimu Tuanui apprenticeship programme will support up to 50 Māori apprentices to participate in ‘earn as you learn’ training, while contributing to the construction of 50 houses across the rohe from Wairoa to Wairarapa.
It’s open to people who have been impacted by COVID-19, those who have completed pre-trades training, and candidates interested in a trades career.
Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated chair Ngahiwi Tomoana says the investment is another step towards good housing, quality jobs and lifelong learning within the iwi.
