Mentors building Maori writers

Whangārei-based architectural designer and writer Jade Kake is one of six aspiring writers chosen for this year’s Māori Literature Trust mentorship programme.
Ms Kake’s essay on contemporary Māori housing projects, Rebuilding the Kainga, was published last year as part of the BWB Texts series.
Te Papa Tupu is a six month programme where writers work alongside a mentor to develop their manuscript and improve their writing skills with the goal of having a publishable manuscript.
The other writers are Ashlee Sturme from Edgecumbe, Deborah Williams of Whangārei, Geraldine Warren from Auckland, Olivia Aroha Giles from Ōtaki and Zeb Nicklin from Palmerston North.
