Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga today celebrated 35 years working with whānau in the Hastings community.
The kaupapa Māori organisation started in a back shed in Flaxmere and now has a workforce of 300 involved with people and communities along the East Coast from Mahia to Rimutaka, and across to Palmerston North..
Chair Mike Paku acknowledged the role the first chief executive, Alayna Watene, played establishing firm foundations for the taiwhenua to expand into the family-focused organisation that it is today.
