COVID restrictions extended further week

Hang in there another week.
That’s the call from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on COVID alert level settings.
Cabinet today decided current settings will continue for another week, based on advice from the Director General of Health about the need to monitor case numbers for a short while longer.
Next Monday Cabinet will review whether to increase gathering limits for Auckland, and it the rest of the country can move to Alert level 1.
Ms Ardern says in the two weeks since Auckland moved to Level 2.5 there have been a further 36 cases identified in the community, all associated with the wider Auckland cluster.
She says more cases are likely to emerge at the tail of this cluster.
Over 100,000 tests nationwide have not shown up any spread of the virus to other parts of New Zealand despite the resumption of inter-regional travel.
Ms Ardern says New Zealand has followed a plan that has worked.
By being cautious it has both saved lives, but also meant the economy has been able to be more open in a more sustained way than nearly any other country in the world.
