10,000 a day test target to track COVID community spread

COVID-19 testing stations will pop up in Rānui, Glen Innes and Manurewa tomorrow afternoon as health authorities mount a push to test 70,000 people over the next week.
That’s on top of the 20 existing community testing centres in the country, 17 of which have been stood up since the start of the outbreak.
Health Minister Chris Hipkins says the aim is to pick up asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus in the community, especially in areas with high Pasifika and Māori populations.
There will also be tests of travellers and staff in managed isolation and at the border, as well as people with flu or cold symptoms, and 30 percent of the tests will be outside Auckland.
There were seven new COVID cases reported today, all linked to the Auckland cluster.
There are three people in intensive care.
