Maori songwriters make APRA finals
Troy Kingi’s colonisation epic Mighty Invader and In the Air, a hit from Kora brothers side-project L.A.B, have made the finals of this year’s APRA Silver Scroll Award.
The award recognises excellence in songwriting, and finalists are picked by New Zealand APRA members.
Kingi was a finalist in 2018 for Aztechknowledgey.
Also making return appearances in the awards are Stella Bennett, better known as Benee, for Glitter, and Nadia Reid for Get The Devil Out.
The line up is completed by Reb Fountain for Don’t You Know Who I Am.
Other awards to be presented on October 14 include the APRA Maioha Award, celebrating exceptional waiata featuring te reo Māori, the SOUNZ Contemporary Award, celebrating excellence in contemporary composition, and awards for best original music in a feature film and a television series.
