Wild pork in COVID care packages
Eastern Bay of Plenty iwi Te Whānau a Apanui has sent a truck load of kai from Te Kaha to Tāmaki Makaurau for its families struggling under the lockdown in the city.
Spokesperson Willie Te Aho says the beef, venison, wild pork and mutton arrived at Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae last night and was divided up and delivered to 300 whānau.
"All of us outside Tāmaki, while respecting social distancing, are moving at will. We know it's not the same for you guys up there and some of our whānau are really feeling the pinch," he says.
The distribution was combined with a Waikato Tainui initiative to get essential grocery items out to whānau.
