Waipareira sets up portside COVID check

Te Whānau o Waipareira has opened a COVID testing clinic at Jellicoe Wharf.
Chief executive John Tamihere says it’s an extension of how the trust operates in West Auckland, with its doors open to all.
He says border testing is critical, and he wants to see the rules around air and sea port staff beefed up.
"Remember this. Yachts are still coming. We've got to beef up our systems at the border so Whānau o Waipareira, we had enough nursing resources and capacity to get down to the port because we have to protect our borders because if it gets away amongst our communities, you know they’re the most vulnerable," he says.
Mr Tamihere says the government is failing to protect Māori, so Waipareira is acting as if the country is moving to Level 4.
