Maori Party excluded from TVNZ debates

The Māori Party says TVNZ’s decision to exclude it from its broadcast political debates is in breach of its shareholder directions.
Co-leader John Tamihere says the crown instructed the board to reflect Māori perspectives – and that must apply to a general election.
The Bill of Rights Act and the Human Rights Act also give the party the right to bring a Māori voice to the political table.
He says the decision is a symptom of the embedded racism Māori suffer day in and day out.
