Bypass bucks used to Elevate Otaki

Otaki’s success with Māori language revitalization is one of the features of the Kapiti Coast town that is being celebrated in a new community project.
Elevate Ōtaki is being funded by Kāpiti Coast District Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency, which recently completed a major expressway that bypassed the town.
Project spokesperson Libby Hakaraia says people in the town know they live in a unique, storied landscape they want to share.
Elevate Otaki includes photographs of people and whānau who live, work and play in Ōtaki, which will be displayed on billboards and artwork placed on buildings around the town and on State Highway 1.
The installation will be supported by a digital campaign with storytelling and social engagement.
The bilingual campaign will be launched on Friday along with the town’s new identity statement and logo.
