Spoiled sign upsets Integrity candidate
A Māori candidate is upset his election signs were tagged with what he regards as racist markings.
Troy Mihaka, who is standing for new Integrity New Zealand party in the Wellington seat of Rongotai, wrote the authorisation statement on his hoardings in te reo Māori.
Soon after he found the word 'English' scrawled over that part of the sign.
That's despite Rongotai being regarded as one of the most liberal electorates in the country.
"How is it in a city that is so incredibly liberal that something like this could happen and I am surprised, disappointed and honestly taken aback that this has happened in a community is so accepting and so welcoming as well," Mr Mihaka says.
