Ihumaatao roundabout going nowhere

With the election less than two months away, it looks like Ihumaatao will be unfinished business for the current Government.
It’s almost the first anniversary of the occupation of the land near Auckland Airport flaring up, when thousands of supporters joined Save Our Unique Landscape occupiers to stop Fletcher Residential clearing the land for a housing development.
Kiingitanga spokesperson Rahui Papa says despite hopes there would be something announced around Waitangi Day, it seems to have been two steps forward and three steps back.
"That house in Wellington is a round house for a reason because they go around and around and around. I'm not sure where the hold up is. Kiingitanga and mana whenua are poised and ready to go to start some discussions in the hope there is some swift resolution," he says.
Rahui Papa says there still needs to be agreement as to who should be included in a representative group of mana whenua if a deal were to be done.
