TE MATATINI HERENGA WAKA HERENGA TANGATA 2021
E kī ana te kōrero, he aha te mea nui o tēnei ao? “He tangata, he tangata, he tangata!”
“Tiakina te whakapapa”; remains our number one priority.
As announced at the end of May, Te Matatini undertook to conduct a robust, thorough and inclusive consultation process with Kapa Haka me ō rātou whānau, our patron Kīngi Tuheitia, our strategic partners and sponsors, Tāmaki Host Committee, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, Eden Park, Auckland Council, Auckland Public Health Services and Government Ministries and agencies. The findings have shown that the main concerns of our whānau, hapū, iwi, Kapa Haka and stakeholders are:
1. The threat of community transmission of COVID-19 in Aotearoa
2. Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata 2021 being held in Tāmaki Makaurau and Tāmaki Makaurau being the gateway to Aotearoa
3. The current economic environment and the financial impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on Kapa Haka and Aotearoa whānui.
We would like to acknowledge the considerable amount of mahi that has taken place for Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata Festival 2021 and the unwavering support that has been received from Government.
Te Matatini National Board, announces the postponement of Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata Festival. The proposed dates are 22 – 26 February 2022 at Eden Park (Ngā Ana Wai).
“Mā tini, mā mano, ka rangatira a Kapa Haka. Herea ngā mata tini ki te ngākau aroha”.
