Health scare sidelines Peters
Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters is taking medical leave after experiencing food poisoning symptoms and dehydration.
The New Zealand First leader says his doctor advised him to undergo a surgical procedure while Parliament is in recess.
He's anticipating a brief hospital visit followed by post-operative recuperation at home.
Mr Peters says he is confident of a quick return to work – as well as being fighting fit for the election campaign, which is typically physically gruelling.
The medical leave means New Zealand First will combine its campaign launch with the party AGM on Sunday, July 19.
