Ihumātao purchase close
A deal could be back on to resolve the stand off at Ihumātao, with the Government considering buying the disputed land under the Housing Act.
That doesn’t necessarily mean any houses will be built on the block, where protesters have been camping for almost a year to stop Fletcher Residential building a 480 home development.
While the Green Party has backed the occupation, New Zealand First has opposed any deal that would undermine the existing Treaty of Waitangi settlement process.
ACT leader David Seymour says any deal would open the door to every iwi settlement being relitigated.
