Coronavirus impact big challenge for children

UNICEF New Zealand’s new Deputy Director General for Child Rights says courage and innovative thinking is needed to address the disparities and inequalities faced by many New Zealand families.
Brandi Hudson, who has Maniapoto, Ngāti Rarua and Ngāti Pikiao connections, comes to the role after nine years as chief executive of Auckland’s Independent Māori Statutory Board.
She has also worked for the Crown Forestry Rental trust, the Heart Foundation and Te Puni Kōkiri.
She says it’s an unprecedented time to join the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, when coronavirus is the biggest global crisis for children since World War II.
She says UNICEF has been working at speed to support children and families in New Zealand and overseas.
