South Auckland health service boost
The Government is investing $211 million to beef up Manukau Health Park.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Health Minister Dr David Clark say it's needed to address growing demand in south Auckland.
About 90 per cent of the 850,000 outpatient appointments at Counties Manukau DHB over the past two years have been at Manukau Health Park, and this number is expected to grow by 25 per cent over the next 10 years.
The money will be used for up to four new theatres and 20 recovery beds, a new centralised sterile services unit, and over 40 new clinical outpatient spaces;
- a new radiology hub so patients don't have to be sent to Middlemore for CT / MRI scans;
- and a fully integrated breast screening service and an expanded renal dialysis hub.
